Vol. 482 No. 6

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

442 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason for the delay in having grants paid to students attending the outreach centre, Kilkenny, which is attached to Carlow Regional Technical College. [18709/97]

My Department has allocated funding to the various third level institutions to meet the costs of maintenance grants under the European Social Fund-aided Maintenance Grant Scheme. The timing of the payment of such grants is a matter for each of the relevant institutions. Officials of the Finance office in Carlow Regional

Technical College have advised officials of my Department of the following schedule for the first payment of maintenance grants in the 1997-98 academic year:
First year students — 31 October 1997
Second year students — 14 November 1997
Third year students — 7 November 1997
These payment arrangements apply to all students including those attending the outreach centre.
