Vol. 482 No. 6

Written Answers. - Seed Stand Protection.

Joe Higgins

Ceist:

84 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the protection, if any, which is in force for woodlands which are registered as seed stands. [19074/97]

Woodlands which are registered as seed stands under EU Directives 66/404/EEC and 71/161/EEC are protected under the provisions of the Forestry Act 1946 which requires, inter alia, that a notice to fell such trees must be given at least three weeks prior to the intended felling date. This legislation allows me to prohibit, modify or refuse such felling proposals.
