Ceist:111 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she will instruct Telecom Éireann to sell off Cablelink; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18558/97]

In line with commitments given to the EU Commission last year during the discussions on Ireland's liberalisation timetable and the strategic alliance, it is Government policy that Cablelink be developed and upgraded to a state of the art multi-media platform at the same rate which would apply if the company were owned by a third party and that the network be subject to open and non-discriminatory access obligations.
In that context, I have asked Telecom Éireann to present to me options for the future development of Cablelink. When I have received the board's proposals I will consider, in consultation with the strategic partners, all the options with a view to determining how the interests of all parties concerned, are best served.
