Vol. 482 No. 8

Written Answers. - Child Care Allowance.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

164 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health and Children if the relative of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 10 is entitled to an allowance, other than the weekly payment of £11 from the supplementary welfare officer, for caring for the child since its mother abandoned her. [19261/97]

The Child Care (Placement of Children with Relatives) Regulations, 1995, provide that health boards shall pay relatives an allowance in respect of a child placed with them in accordance with the regulations. As this child is not in the care of the board, no allowance is payable in this case.

The board has reported that the carer concerned has been advised to contact their community welfare officer in order to pursue the transfer of child benefit to the carer's name.
