Vol. 483 No. 3

Written Answers. - Waste Water Treatment.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

296 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government whether he will approve an economically costed waste water treatment plant for use with individual houses in rural settings; and if he will make a statement on the matter particularly regarding the current high cost of these systems. [20491/97]

I have no function in approving the use of any particular type of waste wate treatment plant or system. However, the revised technical guidance document H, which accompanies the building regulations, will refer to means other than septic tanks of providing satisfactory waste water treatment based on biological action such as filtration or activated sludge. All of the revised technical guidance documents are due to be published next month.
