Vol. 483 No. 3

Written Answers. - Naturalisation Process.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

347 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of naturalisations applied for and subsequently granted for each of the years from 1988-94 other than under the investment based scheme established by Government decision of December 1988. [20597/97]

Departmental records are not maintained in such a way as to provide readily the information sought by the Deputy. The number of certificates of naturalisation, excluding investment-based cases, issued in the years 1988-94 was as follows: 1988, 333; 1989, 294; 1990, 156; 1991, 172; 1992, 131; 1993, 114 and 1994, 159. From 1995 to date, 825 certificates of naturalisation, excluding investment based cases, were issued, some of which will have arisen from applications in years specified by the Deputy.

It would not be possible, without an examination of each individual case, which would require the deployment of a disproportionate level of staff resources, to indicate in which year each of those persons actually applied.
