Vol. 483 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Gerry Reynolds

Ceist:

388 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will review the decision made in relation to a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim who wishes that school transportation be provided from the family home. [20438/97]

The person referred to by the Deputy lives 0.7 miles from the pick-up point of the school transport service. As a rule primary school transport routes are planned so that no eligible child will have more than 1.5 miles to travel to a pick-up point. Pupils living off the main route of a service are generally expected to make their own way, or to be brought to convenient pick-up points along the main route. Home collections were never intended to be a feature of the school transport scheme. Accordingly, in the context of the general operation of the scheme, I regret that the present arrangement is the most that can be offered.

John Ellis

Ceist:

389 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Education and Science the completion date for the review being carried out regarding transport for a person (details supplied) in County Sligo to Benada Abbey secondary school, County Sligo. [20439/97]

I wish to assure the Deputy that a report regarding school transport for the individual in question has been sought as a matter of urgency from the transport liaison officer. As soon as this report is received and considered by my Department, the position will be conveyed to the Deputy immediately.
