Ceist:395 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will increase the salary funding paid to secondary schools for secretarial and janitorial positions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20512/97]
Written Answers. - Secretarial and Caretaking Services.
My Department provides financial assistance towards the provision of secretarial and caretaking services in voluntary secondary schools in line with commitments contained in the Programme for Economic and Social Progress. Under the scheme, all qualifying schools with enrolments in excess of 200 pupils receive assistance towards the cost of each service. The levels of assistance given under the scheme are reviewed from time to time and increased as resources become available having regard to other expenditure priorities in the education sector.
