Vol. 483 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sports Facilities.

Seán Doherty

Ceist:

403 Mr. Doherty asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will provide funding for a sports complex at St. Nathy's college, Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon where over 800 students are in attendance in view of the amalgamation between three second level schools in the town. [20520/97]

My Department does not provide sports complex facilities but application for such facilities can be made to the Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation. Prior to the amalgamation of the second level schools in Ballaghadereen the question of what facilities were to be provided at St. Nathy's college was the subject of discussion between the school authorities and officials from my Department.

Agreement was reached on a schedule of residual accommodation to be provided in premanent accommodation at St. Nathy's. One element of this accommodation is PE ancillary, changing facilities to link with the existing PE hall in the school. This accommodation was completed a number of years ago.
