Vol. 483 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

70 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government whether he intends to review income and eligibility guidelines in respect of applicants for local authority loans including shared ownership, income-related, annuity and other loans in order to reflect current house prices; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20324/97]

Ceist:

255 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to review the thresholds for the house purchase and shared ownership schemes which are currently operated by local authorities; his views on whether these thresholds underestimate the real cost of purchasing a house in view of the current situation in the housing market. [20034/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 70 and 255 together.

I announced, on 13 November, improvements to the terms of the shared ownership and local authority house purchase loans schemes as part of a package of improvements to a range of social housing measures. The details of the revised limits etc. are contained in my Department's circular H10/97 of 13 November 1997, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library.
