Vol. 483 No. 3

Written Answers. - Railway Development.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

109 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Public Enterprise whether she has made available the funds necessary for the implementation of the upgrading of the Kilcock to Dublin rail link, including the opening of the new railway station at Kilcock, County Kildare; if these funds will be drawn down in the next six months; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [20353/97]

The position regarding the upgrading of the railway line between Dublin and Kilcock and provision of a new railway station at Kilcock is set out in my reply to Questions Nos. 90 and 91 of 9 July 1997 in the matter.

To meet the qualifying criteria for EU funds it can be expected in this case that the expenditure will be incurred before the end of 1999. Provided these criteria are met, the timing of any draw down of EU funding is related to the management of the project. This is the responsibility of Iarnród Éireann and I have no function in the matter.
