Vol. 483 No. 5

Written Answers. - Nursing Home Care.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

118 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Health and Children the total cost in 1996 of nursing home subvention for all health boards; the total number of persons for whom nursing home care is being subvented; the plans, if any, he has to increase the subvention levels; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20843/97]

The total cost in 1996 of nursing home subventions for all health boards combined was £17 million. The total number of persons in receipt of a subvention as at 30 June 1997 was 5,770. There is a commitment in the Action Programme for the Millennium to increase the rates of subvention and this is being considered within the context of the resources available to the health services.
