Vol. 483 No. 6

Written Answers. - EU Youth Ministers' Meeting.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

500 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason Ireland was not represented at ministerial level at the meeting of the EU Youth Ministers in Luxembourg on 28 October 1997; and if he will make a statement on the outcome of the meeting. [21459/97]

Due to pressure of work it was not possible for the Minister of State with responsibility for Youth Affairs, Deputy Willie O'Dea, to attend the EU Ministers' Conference in Luxembourg on 28 October 1997.

In the Minister of State's absence Ireland was represented through its Permanent Representation at the EU. This procedure is fully in accord with normal practice. Six member states were represented in this manner at the meeting in question. I will forward the Deputy the official press release outlining the outcomes of the meeting.
