Vol. 483 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Ceist:

53 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the current position regarding the decision to retain and rebuild the Garda station at Mary Street, Limerick; and when construction of the new station will commence in view of the bad condition of the existing station which is housed in temporary portacabins. [21121/97]

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

409 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will confirm the decision of his predecessor of 10 December 1996, to retain the Garda station at Mary Street, King's Island, Limerick; the progress, if any, which has been made to date in replacing the existing station with a new station on or near the Mary Street site; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21392/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 53 and 409 together.

The Office of Public Works is at present examining the feasibility of restoring the station or providing a new building on the site. Detailed costings are awaited and it is not possible to say at this stage when work might commence.
