Vol. 484 No. 2

Written Answers. - Education Technology Investment Fund.

Ceist:

31 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to his recent speech (details supplied), he will give details of the way in which the main beneficiaries in the private sector of the education technology investment fund will contribute to ensure that skills and infrastructure in Ireland continue to develop as necessary and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20323/97]

Draft legislation to establish the fund was presented to the Seanad yesterday. Section 2 of the Bill provides for the establishment of a private donations investment account into which private sector donors may make contributions to the fund. Section 7 of the Bill provides that the Minister for Education and Science may, subject to the terms of the Bill, accept gifts of money, land or other property. Donations may be made subject to any conditions as may be specified by donors, provided that such conditions are not inconsistent with the functions of the Minister, or the Minister for Finance, under the Bill.
