232 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will have examinations made into the case of a person (details supplied) in County Waterford who has been refused exemption under the disabled driver scheme by the South-Eastern Health Board. [22111/97]
The assessment of applications for a medical certificate under the Disabled Drivers and Disabled Passengers (Tax Concessions) Regulations, 1994, is carried out by the relevant health board. I understand that the person referred to by the Deputy made an application to the South-Eastern Health Board some time ago but it was turned down on medical grounds. I also understand that he was advised of his entitlement to appeal the health board's decision to the Disabled Drivers Medical Board of Appeal in Dublin which was set up by the Minister for Finance under the above regulations. Accordingly, if the Deputy has any further queries about this matter I would advise him to contact the Revenue Commissioners who are responsible for administering this scheme.
