Vol. 484 No. 3

Written Answers. - Gender Balance.

Alan Shatter

Ceist:

240 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of women who are principals in general medical services practices; the number of women who have applied for vacancies in the general medical services; and the proportion of applicants for vacancies who are women. [22256/97]

The information sought by the Deputy is set out, by health board, in the following table. I should point out that the information relates to competitions for posts in the general medical services scheme for which applications were received in the year ended 30 November 1997. However, the figures for the Western Health Board relate to the period from 1 January 1997 to end November 1997.

The figures in the table include a small number of cases where there is a female partner in a group general practice but the terms of the partnership do not readily allow for one individual to be regarded as the principal within the practice.
