Vol. 484 No. 3

Written Answers. - Hospital Budgets.

Alan Shatter

Ceist:

243 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health and Children the amount by which the acute hospitals in Dublin over-ran their budgets in the first ten months of 1997; the amount by which each health board over-ran its budget; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22260/97]

The reports received from the agencies in respect of the position at end of October 1997 were set against their unadjusted budgets. The figures for over-runs, as reported by the agencies at that time, are: Eastern Health Board £1.965 million; Midland Health Board £1.697 million; Mid-Western Health Board £1.456 million; North-Eastern Health Board £2.273 million; North-Western Health Board £1.398 million; South-Eastern Health Board £1.043 million; Southern Health Board £3.641 million; Western Health Board £3.801 million and Acute Dublin Hospitals £8.473 million.

It is anticipated that their reported over spends will be eliminated by a combination of the actions taken by the agencies, the funding obtained in the Health Supplementary Estimate for 1997 and through the provision of additional pay funding channelled through the Department of Finance's Vote 44 in respect of local bargaining agreements.
