Ceist:

327 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the total moneys allocated to organisations under the drugs task force programme; the names of the organisations that have been funded in this regard; the date on which sanction was given; and if further funding will be allocated to projects in 1997. [21852/97]

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

328 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the amount of moneys allocated to each of the pilot areas as designated by the report of the inter-departmental task force; and the further funding, if any, which will be allocated in 1997. [21853/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 327 and 328 together.

Funding of £10 million was provided to support the implementation of the action plans of the local drugs task forces. The Government decided to allocate funding to assist projects identified in these plans in two phases.

The information sought by the Deputy in relation to the Phase I allocations is set out in the following schedule. Projects which were approved for funding involve actions relating to drugs prevention, as well as the treatment and rehabilitation of drug misusers and are designed to complement existing or planned services being provided by statutory agencies, such as the health boards, the Department of Education and Science and FÁS.

Proposals regarding phase II allocations, prepared by the National Drugs Strategy Team, are expected to be submitted to Government for consideration shortly. These will make recommendations in relation to the outstanding proposals in the plans of the 11 task forces which have already been approved funding, along with the recently received plans from Blanchardstown and Cork.
