Vol. 484 No. 3

Written Answers. - Health and Safety Practices.

David Stanton

Ceist:

99 Mr. Stanton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the responsibilities of her Department in relation to health and safety; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22005/97]

The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 1989 established the National Authority for Occupational Safety and Health.

The authority which comes under the aegis of my Department, administers and enforces all occupational health and safety legislation. I have overall responsibility for policy in the area and for ensuring that our EU commitments are met. As well, I have a role in ensuring that the HSA is adequately resourced in order to discharge its functions.
