Ceist:21 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the budgetary provision, if any, she has made for 1998 to progress the provision of the DART to Malahide, County Dublin. [22787/97]

The cost of the seven kilometre DART extension to Malahide is approximately £8 million. The project will receive 85 per cent funding assistance from the EU Cohesion Fund with CIE providing the balance from its own resources. The question of an Exchequer provision does not arise. Preparatory and planning work in respect of the electrification of the line to Malahide is well advanced. The extension will be completed by the end of 1999.
