Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ryanair Dispute.

Thomas P. Broughan

Ceist:

193 Mr. Broughan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will refer the trade recognition dispute at Ryanair to the Labour Relations Commission or to the Labour Court; and the steps, if any, she is taking to resolve this dispute and avoid similar disputes in the future. [2197/98]

The Labour Court, following consultation with the Labour Relations Commission, has invited the parties to this dispute to separate meetings on Friday next, 30 January, for the purpose of carrying out an investigation under section 26(5) of the Industrial Relations Act, 1990. Both sides have accepted the court's invitation.

In disputes such as this and, indeed, in all industrial disputes the services of the dispute settling agencies — the Labour Relations Commission and the Labour Court — are available to the parties where the issues involved cannot be resolved at local level. This approach is central to our voluntary system of industrial relations.
