Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Clothing Costs.

Derek McDowell

Ceist:

387 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for Defence if he will give details of the amounts involved in relation to clothing under the Appropriations-in-Aid and the total acquisition cost of same to the Exchequer in the year 1997; and similarly in respect of stores under the heading Miscellaneous. [1675/98]

The amount of receipts in 1997 in respect of clothing, stores and provisions is £143,000 approximately. However, the financial records kept by the Department do not readily provide a break-down of this figure, and a disproportionate expenditure of official tme would be required to provide that information. The charge for items of clothing and stores is the cost of purchase or current value, as appropriate, plus an administration charge of 15 per cent.
