Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Lung Transplants.

Pat Carey

Ceist:

544 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11 will receive a lung transplant at Harefield Hospital in view of the fact that she is on a priority list and an abortive attempt was made in July 1997 to have this procedure carried out; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1261/98]

The person to whom the Deputy is referring is under the care of the cardiothoracic unit at the Mater Hospital and is on the waiting list for a lung transplant at Harefield Hospital. I understand that an attempt at transplant was made in July 1997 but unfortunately proved unsuccessful as the donor organ was unsuitable. I have been informed by the authorities at the Mater Hospital that the patient is scheduled to return to Harefield on 26 February for further assessment.
