Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Child Abuse.

Dan Neville

Ceist:

562 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Health and Children the national agreed standards, if any, there are and format operated by the eight health boards for the transfer of information from one board to another where it is known that a family whose children are, or were, suspected of being at risk; if so, the standards and format which operate; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1447/98]

Guidance on this issue is provided in section 5 of the 1987 Child Abuse Guidelines which is entitled "Exchange of information on child abuse cases". This states that when families with children who are considered to be at risk change residence and move to another health board area, all the appropriate records should be transferred to the new health board. I am currently setting up a working group to review the 1987 and 1995 Child Abuse guidelines and this review will include an examination of the current procedures in place for the transfer of records between health boards.
