65 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will give details of his intentions and the timescale for the Government's recent commitment to a constitutional amendment to uphold the rights of the child; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2146/98]
I refer the Deputy to my reply to a question put down by Deputy Jim O'Keeffe on 9 October last. In that reply I gave a commitment that the possibility of a constitutional amendment to underpin the individual rights of children would be referred to the all-party committee on the Constitution. This committee has recently been reconstituted and the issue has been referred to it in line with the commitment which I gave. The matter will be further considered when the committee's views are to hand.
