Vol. 486 No. 2

Written Answers. - Rights of the Child.

Frances Fitzgerald

Ceist:

69 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Health and Children the actions, if any, he intends to take following the Geneva hearing to ensure that Ireland meets its national and international obligations in relation to children. [2080/98]

The concluding observations of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in regard to the committee's examination of Ireland's first national report on the implementation of the convention were received by the Department of Foreign Affairs on Friday last, 23 January and forwarded to my Department that afternoon.

The observations of the committee in relation to the responsibilities of this Department are being examined by officials at present and, when the examination has been concluded, necessary follow-up action will be decided. The Deputy will appreciate that the committee's concluding observations are relevant to a number of other Departments.
