Vol. 486 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Facilities.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

72 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Health and Children when he will provide the necessary capital funding of £12 million to provide the essential operating theatres at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin in view of the inadequate facilities for heart surgery there; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2113/98]

I am fully committed to the provision of additional operating theatre space at this hospital. The project team at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children has completed the brief for this development and this is now being considered by my Department's hospital planning office, in order to calculate an appropriate cost limit for the project.

My Department will continue to work in close co-operation with the management of Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in order to ensure that this project moves quickly to the next stage of planning. I have made provision for the theatre development in my Department's capital programme and I am confident that the planning of this important project will continue with all possible speed.
