Vol. 486 No. 5

Written Answers. - TEAM Aer Lingus.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

46 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the position in relation to the pension fund for TEAM Aer Lingus employees, which is Government backed, in the context of the proposed sale of TEAM Aer Lingus to FLS. [2944/98]

Michael Creed

Ceist:

47 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Public Enterprise her views on whether it is appropriate that the ground equipment maintenance department which services all ground equipment for Aer Lingus, TEAM Aer Lingus and Air Rianta should be included in the proposed sale to FLS, in view of the fact that the company has no history of involvement in this area; and if any long-term assurances have been sought from FLS with regard to employees in this sector. [2946/98]

Michael Creed

Ceist:

48 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the arrangements, if any, which have been made in the context of the proposed sale of TEAM Aer Lingus to FLS to safeguard the present pay and conditions of TEAM employees. [2947/98]

Michael Creed

Ceist:

49 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she is satisfied with the proposed buyout of TEAM Aer Lingus by FLS; her views on the fact that the aviation side of FLS business is in fact smaller than that of TEAM Aer Lingus and is running at a substantial loss; and the consequences, if any, she envisages for the employees of TEAM Aer Lingus as a result of this. [2948/98]

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 46, 47, 48 and 49 together.

The Deputy will appreciate that the issues relating to the future of TEAM Aer Lingus currently being addressed by management and employee representatives are varied and complex. It would be inappropriate for me to comment on those issues in advance of any possible agreement emerging from the current discussions and the subsequent receipt of any formal proposal from the board of the Aer Lingus Group in the matter. I have however indicated to both management and unions that any agreement to sell TEAM will require the agreement of the workforce in the company.
