Written Answers. - School Staffing.
A total of 46 schools in County Kildare have an authorised staffing of a Principal and four assistant teachers or less in the current school year. In accordance with the agreed staffing schedule applicable to the 1997-98 school year, a school would have needed a minimum enrolment of 158 pupils on 30 September 1996 in order to qualify for the appointment of a fifth assistant teacher. All 46 schools referred to above had enrolments of less than 158 pupils on that date.
