My Department carries out a detailed epidemiological investigation of each confirmed case of BSE which occurs in the country. As the incubation period of the disease is about five years, it is not always possible to determine the exact cause of the outbreak. In order to ensure full co-operation of herdowners and other parties with these investigations, it is not my Department's policy to publish the reports on investigations of individual cases.
