Proinsias De Rossa

Ceist:

62 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the progress, if any, which has been made regarding the drawing up of an employment action plan within the framework of the guidelines agreed at the special summit in Luxembourg in November 1997; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1591/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 49 and 62 together.

The conclusions of the European Council in Luxembourg on 20 and 21 November 1997 last and the ensuing European Council resolution of 15 December 1997 on the 1998 EU employment guidelines call for a national action plan from each member state indicating how they intend to implement the guidelines.

Under this process the Irish Government is required to submit an action plan to the EU Commission by 15 April 1998. An integral part of the preparation and development of our national action plan will include consultation with the social partners. My Department is currently co-ordinating the action plan in conjunction with relevant Departments and agencies.
