Vol. 487 No. 7

Written Answers. - Burglary Incidence.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

254 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of break-ins to houses in an estate (details supplied) in Dublin 8 in 1997 and in 1998; the number of persons charged for these offences; and if arrangements will be made to have regular Garda foot patrols in this area. [5126/98]

As the Deputy may be aware, crime statistics are compiled on the basis of Garda divisions and districts. In this regard, I am informed by the Garda authorities that the number of burglaries of dwellings recorded in the Kevin Street Garda District — in which the estate referred to by the Deputy is located — was 719 in 1996. Proceedings have commenced in respect of 232 of these offences. Statistics for 1997 and 1998 are not yet available.

I am also informed that the Garda authorities are satisfied that appropriate attention is being afforded by way of mobile and foot patrols to the area to which the Deputy refers. This attention is reviewed on an ongoing basis and adjustments are made as necessary.
