Vol. 488 No. 1

Written Answers - Schools Building Projects.

Dinny McGinley

Ceist:

281 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Education and Science if an application has been received in his Department for a permanent class-room to a school (details supplied) in County Donegal; if the application has been approved or is being considered at present; and when it is expected that this facility will be provided. [5769/98]

Mary Coughlan

Ceist:

287 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in relation to the proposed extension to Donaghmore national school, Castlefin, County Donegal. [5821/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 281 and 287 together.

My Department has received an application for additional accommodation at Donaghmore national school, Castlefin, County Donegal. As the Deputy will be aware, the demands for capital funding in the primary sector are considerable. While I am not currently in a position to give a commitment on the funding of this project, I can assure the Deputy that the needs of the school will be considered in the context of future capital allocations.

Ulick Burke

Ceist:

282 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Education and Science if capital funding is available for the construction of a new school in County Galway (details supplied) to replace existing facilities which are unsatisfactory for both pupils and teachers. [5770/98]

My Department has approved in principle a replacement building for the school in question. Difficulties in relation to the identified site for the new school building are currently being addressed by the school's design team. The question of the provision of capital funding for the construction of this project will not arise until the architectural planning of the new school building is completed.
