Written Answers - Income Tax Exemptions.

38 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Finance if he will introduce legislation to exempt Telecom Éireann and ESB workers from paying income tax for work done to repair storm damage in the southern part of the country over Christmas 1997, when they worked endlessly to restore electricity and telephone services. I would like to inform the Deputy that I appreciate the extra work carried out by many workers over the Christmas period. However, it is a matter for employers, rather than the general tax system, to reward workers for extra effort.
