Vol. 488 No. 1

Written Answers - Proposed Valuation Bill.

Ceist:

61 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Finance the consultation, if any, officials of his Department have had with those groups which might have an interest in the proposed Valuation Bill; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5596/98]

The Deputy will be aware that a general scheme of a Valuation Bill is being prepared in my Department. In recent weeks, consultation has been initiated with all Departments so that a memorandum and draft general scheme can be presented to Government for consideration. In view of the complex nature of the proposals it is envisaged this consultation will take some weeks to complete.

The Valuation Office has already met and consulted with several of the representative and professional bodies concerned with the valuation system on technical aspects of the proposed legislation. It is intended that, once the proposed legislation has been approved by Government, a wide ranging process of consultation will take place with industrial and commercial representative groups. There will also be further contact with the professional bodies in the valuation field.
