124 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will give details of the Government's proposals to establish a national children's trust; the nature of the work that it is proposed the trust will undertake; the number of persons that will be appointed to administer this trust; the amount of funding to be furnished to this trust and the source of such funding; and when this trust will be established. [5861/98]

I am committed to the concept of a trust which would draw funding from public and private sources to fund research, voluntary activity and good practice in relation to disadvantaged children. The establishment of such a trust is being examined in the context of the Government decision to establish an interdepartmental working group to examine the issues surrounding the creation of a community trust to support voluntary activity generally. The administration of the fund, the amount and nature of funding required and the possible date of its establishment are issues to be considered by the working group.
