Vol. 488 No. 3

Written Answers - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

85 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the criteria, if any, which will form the basis for the allocation of funds from his Department to the various local authorities for expenditure on group water supply schemes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6039/98]

The process of allocating moneys, by way of block grant, within the overall capital provision for group schemes in 1998 to local authorities in respect of group schemes is currently under way and will take account of the multi-annual programmes submitted by the local authorities with regard to the rural water programme and the level of commitments in respect of schemes continuing in construction.

Expenditure by local authorities under the scheme for the payment of subsidy towards the operational cost of group schemes will be recouped, on an ongoing basis, on receipt of appropriate claims from the local authority.
