Vol. 488 No. 3

Written Answers - Peace Commissioner Appointments.

Jim Mitchell

Ceist:

103 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a person (details supplied) in Dublin 8, who was offered appointment as a peace commissioner, accepted the offer and subsequently received a letter of appointment from his predecessor, has received no warrant of appointment to date; and if he will now confirm that a warrant of appointment will issue. [6052/98]

The position is that the nominee was informed by my predecessor that the nominee would be considered for appointment to the office of peace commissioner on receipt of a completed form of acceptance. No letter of appointment issued from my predecessor as the necessary process was not completed. I am still considering the matter of appointment of the nominee to the office of peace commissioner.
