Vol. 488 No. 4

Written Answers - Hospital Services.

Ceist:

213 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will provide details of the protocol guidelines for the administration of interuterine insemination (IUI) treatment; the hospitals operating this protocol; if he will give details of trials, if any, that have occurred in Irish hospitals on this treatment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6556/98]

I am informed that, overall there are no protocols or guidelines for the administration of intra-uterine insemination (IUI) treatment. However, I understand that each hospital unit or clinic providing the treatment has its own agreed protocols for the treatment. My Department has been unable to identify any trials carried out in Irish hospitals on this treatment.
