Vol. 488 No. 4

Written Answers - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Michael Moynihan

Ceist:

216 Mr. M. Moynihan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when permission will be granted to Cork County Council for a new sewerage scheme in Kilbrin, County Cork; when permission will be granted to appoint consultants to prepare a preliminary report in view of the fact that a design brief was submitted in September 1997 to his Department. [6111/98]

A brief for this scheme has been submitted to my Department. Given the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage services investment programme I cannot say when it may be possible to approve it.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

217 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if EU funding for the new sewage treatment system for Sligo has been approved; and, if so, the date the application was submitted to the EU, the amount allocated and the date on which it was approved. [6122/98]

An application for the Sligo Bay Wastewater Management scheme was submitted to the EU for Cohesion Fund assistance in November 1994. A decision was made by the European Commission dated 4 December 1995, in which they committed funding to the value of £1,383,800 in respect of the planning and design stage of a wastewater collection and treatment system for Sligo town and the Cummeen area west of the town.
