Vol. 488 No. 4

Written Answers - Roads Funding.

P. J. Sheehan

Ceist:

241 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when his Department will allocate funds to Cork County Council in view of their request (details supplied) for a special allocation for the repair of county roads that were extensively damaged by flash floods in August 1997. [6422/98]

It is intended that the non-national road grant allocations for 1998, which were recently notified, should provide for the special and ongoing needs of all road authorities, including Cork County Council. In the case of Cork County Council, the total allocation involved of £18,833,500 is an increase of 15 per cent on the payment figure for 1997.

Michael D. Higgins

Ceist:

242 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if funding will be made available in the 1998 Estimates for the western distributor road in the environs of Galway city. [6503/98]

Galway Corporation's 1998 non-national road grant allocation of £1,410,000 includes an allocation of £1,000,000 under the EU co-financed scheme of grants for the western distributor road.
