Ceist:

268 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the names, duties and rates of remuneration of all public relation consultants or other consultants engaged by his Department from 26 June 1997 to date. [6262/98]

While it was the practice of my predecessor to engage public relations consultants, no public relations consultants have been engaged by my Department.

The information sought by the Deputy in relation to other consultants engaged by my Department in the period 26 June 1997 to date in 1998 is set out in the following tabular statement:

To advise on the preparation of an Action Plan for the Implementation of the Report of the Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities.

Mr. Terry Lawlor.

Analysis, Development and Support for DataEase systems pending their replacement.

Nil to date.

Pearn Kandola.

To design a Core Competence Framework for the role of the Prison Officer to underpin recruitment procedures.

Ms Grainne Healy.

Rapporteur for the Conference on the Victims of Crime. Duties included attendance at the Conference sessions and the preparation of a comprehensive report of the proceedings of the conference.

Deloitte & Touche Management Consultants.

To develop a focused overview of the future role of the Office for Charitable Donations and Bequests with regards to the aims of the Strategic Management Initiative and to analyse and report on the consequent management requirement of the Office.

Helm Corporation.

To develop a focused overview of the administrative and management requirement of the Office of the Film Censor with regard to the aims and objectives of the Strategic Management Initiative and to specify in detail a proposed future organisation structure for the Office.

My Department engages, as required on an ongoing basis, professional consultants.

To facilitate the prisons building and refurbishment programme. These appointments include consulting architects, consulting engineers, and other professional disciplines as appropriate to each particular project.

Complete prisons consultancy costs are not available at this time. I will write to the Deputy advising him of the total amounts paid in the coming week.

*The figures given represent the total payments made to date on these projects, they do not represent the total value of these contracts. For reasons of commercial confidentiality it would not be proper to release remuneration figures.
