Vol. 488 No. 4

Written Answers - Teacher Salaries.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

319 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education and Science the basis upon which the Department differentiates between temporary wholetime teachers in the community sector and in the voluntary sector in relation to incremental credit for service; if, in view of this anomaly, his Department will rectify the situation by treating all temporary wholetime teachers equally; the consideration, if any, he has given this matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6410/98]

Temporary wholetime teachers employed in secondary schools are awarded incremental credit in respect of relevant non teaching service and teaching service abroad. Teachers employed by vocational education committees and in community-comprehensive schools are granted incremental credit in respect of such service from the date of appointment in a permanent capacity.

A claim has been lodged to the Conciliation Council for Teachers to have incremental credit for relevant non teaching service and teaching service abroad granted to temporary teachers.

The claim will be discussed at the Conciliation Council in the near future.
