Vol. 488 No. 4

Written Answers - Recycled Products.

David Stanton

Ceist:

40 Mr. Stanton asked the Taoiseach the arrangements, if any, in place in his Department and in any State agency or body under his control to encourage or enforce the reuse or recycling of paper and, in particular, of envelopes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6163/98]

My Department places strong emphasis on recycling paper and the conservation of resources. All of our paper waste is recycled. Envelopes emanating from external sources are reused for internal circulation and there is also extensive use of standard circulation envelopes within the Department. In addition, we encourage the use of electronic communications and double-sided photocopying, all of which reduces paper usage. It is my understanding that, although the bodies under the aegis of my Department make their own housekeeping arrangements, they take a similar approach to recycling.
