84 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if Irish meat plants and abattoirs are subject to published hygiene assessment scores as in the United Kingdom; and, if not, the proposals, if any, to introduce published assessments. [6131/98]

I have no proposals at present to introduce the UK hygiene assessment system (HAS) scores in Ireland.

I am satisfied that the system of continuous review in place in EU approved plants under the supervision of my Department provides the necessary meat hygiene guarantees.
