Vol. 488 No. 4

Written Answers - Grant Payments.

Ceist:

97 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will provide further funds to the Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to ensure that it can continue to undertake its work; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6160/98]

As I have previously announced, I made a grant payment of £100,000 to the DSPCA in December last bringing to £200,000 the total paid to the society by my Department since September 1995. This indicates very tangible recognition of the work done by this organisation. My Department recently met representatives of the society to discuss future fund raising activities and financing and is awaiting its proposals.
