15 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands when it is proposed to introduce an allowance for islanders in view of the commitment given by the Government in this regard; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6534/98]
As I stated recently in my reply to Questions Nos. 27 and 37 of 5 February 1998, the question of an islander allowance is among the issues being considered by my Department as part of an overall package to improve island living conditions, in consultation with the relevant authorities and the Interdepartmental Committee on the Islands, the Gaeltacht and the Irish language.
