48 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the guidelines, if any, his Department has issued internally or to any agency or body in relation to the use of the national flag and the European flag. [6584/98]
No specific instructions have been issued by my Department in relation to the use of the national and EU flags. As a general rule my Department follows the guidelines detailed in "An Bhratch Naisiúnta" which was published by the Genealogical Office. Agencies and bodies under the aegis of the Department are expected to follow those guidelines.
Each year the Department of the Taoiseach draws to the attention of Departments occasions upon which the national flag should be flown and the flag is flown in accordance with that. The usage of the EU flag has not been the subject of specific guidelines but when necessary the Department would confer with, or take advice from the Departments of the Taoiseach and Foreign Affairs regarding usage.
