Vol. 488 No. 6

Written Answers. - Counselling Services.

Liz McManus

Ceist:

156 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of health boards that provide one to one counselling for adult victims of child sexual abuse; if this counselling is provided by fully qualified psychologists; if this service is provided in health board premises; if his Department is providing funding to the health boards for this type of service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6876/98]

All health boards provide counselling services for adult victims of child sexual abuse which is usually provided through funding provided by the health boards to the rape crisis centres. Additional revenue funding of £100,000 was provided by my Department in 1997 for the development by health boards of support services for victims of past abuse. I have referred the Deputy's question regarding the qualifications of counsellors and the locations of the services to the health boards for direct reply.
